The Islamic Bank of Thailand, represented by Ms. Tuansaleena Kubaha, Senior Vice President of the Government Policy Department, together with Mr. Norraset Meesuwan, Senior Officer of the Shariah Product Department, warmly welcomed the delegation from the Raheemah Economic Hub and Development Center (REHDC) and the MSU Special Committee on Halal of the Mindanao State University, Philippines. The delegation visited Thailand under the collaboration with the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur for a study mission on Halal operations and Islamic finance from May 28 to June 5, 2025.
One of the key activities of the delegation was a visit to the Islamic Bank of Thailand on May 30, 2025, at the bank's headquarters at Nuam Asoke Building, Bangkok, to exchange knowledge on Islamic banking operations and inclusive financial access initiatives successfully implemented in Thailand.
On this occasion, Ms. Tuansaleena Kubaha presented an overview of the bank, its financial products aligned with its mission, and its Shariah governance practices. A particular highlight was the “Honest Community” Project, a microfinance scheme initiative that garnered significant interest. The project aims to promote morality, transparency, and financial discipline at the community level. Its core philosophy is to build communities based on honesty and mutual support, and it is administered under the supervision of local mosques. This reflects the essence of Islamic finance and aligns with government policy to reduce informal debt burdens.
Dr. Jamel R. Cayamodin, Chair of the MSU Special Committee on Halal, stated: "This visit marks an important step in enhancing the capacity of our institutions and communities by learning best practices from neighboring countries in Southeast Asia. The information and experience gained will support the formulation of policies and legislation that promote sustainable economic opportunities through the Halal system and Islamic finance." The study visit aims to reduce poverty and expand financial access for the people of Lanao del Sur by applying Islamic economic concepts in both policy and practical implementation.
Ms. Sittie Aisha Baicon Cayongcat, Executive Director of REHDC, added: "We are deeply grateful for the warm hospitality extended by the Islamic Bank of Thailand and look forward to a truly beneficial and meaningful exchange."
This visit reflects the strengthening cooperation among countries in Southeast Asia in promoting ethical finance and inclusive growth based on shared values.
