Dr. Thaweelap Rittapirom, Director and President of the Islamic Bank of Thailand (ibank), together with the executive team, welcomed Ms. Husne Ara Shikha, Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank (Central Bank of Bangladesh), and her delegation during their visit to study under the theme, “Ongoing Initiatives or Projects, Especially; Small Business or SME or Financial Inclusion.”
During the visit, the delegation was introduced to projects initiated by ibank to support individual customers and SMEs, particularly the Honest Community Project. This project shares similarities with the microfinance initiatives of Grameen Bank in Bangladesh but is uniquely distinguished by ibank’s approach of using mosques as community hubs for providing financial services to congregants. This innovative financial model seamlessly integrates faith-based principles with economic security, making it a standout initiative.
The visit was held at the ibank Headquarters, Nuam Building, on January 15, 2025. It received positive feedback from the delegation, who expressed great interest in the project’s approach and its success in Thailand.
